What is Road Charge?
Road charge is an innovative funding mechanism that allows drivers to support road maintenance based on the distance they travel, rather than the amount of gasoline they consume. Think of it as a physical activity recorder for your car (without the trendy wrist accessory).
Help Fix California’s Roadways, One Mile at a Time.
An efficient transportation system is critical to California’s economy and quality of life. However, our roads today are the most congested in the nation and rapidly deteriorating. As vehicle fuel efficiency increases, fewer gallons of gas are being purchased, creating a loss in revenue needed to maintain our highway system. California needs an innovative funding mechanism to accommodate our growing population and economy. Now that the pilot has successfully concluded, we invite you to stay engaged with us as the Road Charge Program continues to research how a pay-per-mile fee can potentially be a sustainable solution for California.
